The Beginning and the End

“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the Bright Morning Star.”
~Revelation 22:16 (NIV).
This is a confusing theology to the First Century Pharisees. Jesus is found in Luke 20:41-44 playing the Pharisees at their own game—“David calls him ‘Lord.’ How then can he be his son?”
Jesus – God and Man
How is it that Jesus can be both the Root of David and his Offspring too? The Son in the Godhead was, is, and will be, party to the creation of the world and all things and beings in it. He also, as the incarnate Messiah, Jesus, was also a descendent of lineage in the Davidic line.
That God visited us in Jesus is irrefutable; the historical fact. Did Jesus’ death not crush the power of sin? No, Jesus wasn’t forsaken for nothing—he was forsaken for our salvation. This we take hold of, in faith, the many-times prophesied fact.
Our ‘Everything’
This Bright Morning Star is our hope and our salvation. Jesus, as arranged in Revelation, and indeed many places elsewhere, is our everything, “... the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End” (Revelation 22:13 NIV).
When we hold such a concept open before ourselves—that of Jesus being “everything” to us—we quickly approach a worldview that is far beyond the normal limitations and boundaries-of-earthly-spirituality. And aren’t there limitless forgeries for the real thing—a true and vibrant Spirituality?
It is inexplicable, but the Holy Spirit floods our lives with something—this “everything”—beyond the sublime.
New Light – True Light
It is in this that we can see everything before us in new light... indeed, true light.
When Jesus stands for us at that gate, our hearts fondly adoring, everything changes—it has to. Our lives are lit from within by the Holy Spirit—the former things are no more. They’re just transformed.
But this “everything” also fades. We can retrace our Spiritual footsteps at any time, however, finding our way back to the open-minded and open-hearted status of sound Jesus belief.
Do we feel it; even now? Is Jesus still our Beginning and End?
