Prayer for Eye-Opening Wisdom and Revelation

The Apostle Paul writes,

“I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you come to know him, so that, with the eyes of your heart enlightened, you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance among the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power for us who believe, according to the working of his great power.”

~Ephesians 1:17-19 (NRSV).

That, above, is indeed a great mouthful, and theologically rich to boot!

The “spirit of wisdom and revelation”—a gift from the Father—is what is required to discern right from wrong as we’re personally and interpersonally concerned.

REPENTANCE

Yes, it’s the aknowledgement of our sin and the impartation of forgiveness through the redemption in the name and works of Jesus Christ our Lord. It’s about repentance, for all true believers in Jesus have repented and continue to do through this newfound spirit of wisdom and revelation.

When the eyes of our hearts are enlightened we know, with truth. We discern the truth and, of course, we respond. We’re compelled to. The Power operating within us sees to it.

CALLING

The hope to which we’re called is a high and lofty hope, but it’s equally so inherently grounded in the dictates of the day. This Spirituality from God is above all practical. It’s augmenting our relationships and very statuses as loving human beings.

We’re called to a majestic inheritance—one ordered for the saints of the Lord. It’s a resplendently regal holy power that manifests itself in and through us—a greatness no one and nothing can match, understand or correspond with.

This is the prayer for the Ephesians and, since that time, it goes to all true believers.
